4. SCBC Projects & Activities Updates
The following projects are the primary focus for 2010/11.
(1) Employment Growth. SCBC commissioned University of the Sunshine Coast to identify employment strategies for sustainable regional economic development and employment growth. The USC base research included regional comparisons and identified industry themes. The Sunshine Coast Business Council with other stakeholders will be conducting a regional event to determine the relevance of this research for the Sunshine Coast.
SCBC will also work with the RDA Sunhine Coast Inc and Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation (DEEDI) as a member of a reference committee to maximise the business and economic development opportunities that will arise from the proposed investment in the region's health infrastructure.
SCBC is also seeking a regional conference of federal, state and local government representatives, industry and members of the business community to address the decline in business conditions on the Coast and how to implement practical measures to arrest the decline and stimulate growth. We will advise more on this initiative as discussions progress.
(2) Health. SCBC conducted a Health Forum in July 2010 and is continuing to monitor developments in this area. It is proposed to follow up with a second forum in the latter part of this financial year.
